Is the man in your life lacking a little something? Has your brother just started uni and in the rush of freedom, realised he doesn’t know how to boil an egg? Or has your boyfriend found solace in monogamy and started packing on the pounds? While we would love them to pieces anyway, James Kerley’s new book The Man Plan, is a perfect way to whip them back into shape.

The Man Plan balances the perfect line – a little bit wise, with a massive dose of cheek. Each chapter covers essential skills that funny man Kerley considers to be essentials for the modern day man. He starts with the basics – washing, cleaning, fixing up those grotty and gruesome bachelor pads. This moves into even more practical skills – navigating awkward social situations, taking care of your body and even how to romance ladies the right way. He also includes a fantastic chapter on cooking with some easy, but mouthwatering recipes so even the most inexperienced will be capable of whipping up a feast that is sure to wow.

Perhaps our favourite chapter though was the ‘Bogan Proofing’ chapter – an entire section dedicated to straightforward (and hilarious) advice on how to avoid the all-too common Aussie slip ups – like how to react when there’s a black tie dress code.

James’ voice throughout the book is perfect – honest, genuine advice, with that effortless tongue in cheek element that veers the book away from being condescending. The book is the perfect gift for any young man in your life – but when you give it to him, make sure he knows you mean well.
